London - Day 3

posted Sunday, 5 February 2006
Friday started the same way that the previous day did. We got up in the morning and we walked down to where Rina was staying so she could attend her class. I lazed around a bit again until she was done. When she came back she told me that evenings play was seated on a first-come first-served basis, so if I got a ticket we could sit together. Dave (organiser of the trip and thoroughly nice bloke) had offered to see if he could get an extra ticket, and so he did. He didn't mention that he was only able to get a ticket for the upper tier when the others were lower tier. Dave he sat on his own so that I could sit with Rina, and we didn't realise this until later.

Before all that we did a bit more of the touristy thing. Got some nice pasta and then we went to St Paul's Cathedral. Not only is it a stunning and interesting building, but if you're willing to put in the leg work you can climb to the top and get an incredible view of the city. We climbed all of those stairs (I can't remember the exact number, but I think it's about half a million) and when we got to the top we both felt very unfit. It's definitely worth the climb though. After that we went down to the crypt where Rina bought me coffee and we shared a muffin.

Then we went to the Tower of London. It was getting late so we didn't really have time to do it properly, but we had fun. You can really get a sense of what the tower looked like hundreds of years ago. We saw lots of very expensive stuff. Those crown jewels are really not practical!

When we were done it was time to get off to see the play. It was a relatively long journey to get there (the other plays all being in central London) but Dave knew what he was doing and we all followed. The play (A Journey to London) was a lot of fun and we both really enjoyed it. It was in a small theatre on a square stage with the audience on all four sides. I definitely recognised one of the guys in it from TV, but I couldn't place it at all. It's going to bug me forever, or at least until I see him on TV again!

It took us a long time to get home and the night ended on a bad note when we failed to find food. Our time together isn't always perfect but it's worth having the occasional bad moment because the good moments are spectacular.

Dave is incredible. Some times I just swing by his office now to say hi. He's so great. He's also known as the Candyman because he has enormous glass jars of candy and chocolate and licorice in his room for anyone who wants.

I really enjoyed St Paul's, even with the 530 (million) steps. And I bough you apple juice, not coffee, remember? And I got my lemon-lime juice drink or whatever it was.

The play was hilarious. One of my favorites, by far. I'm sorry I was a bitch that night.

Ah yes, you bought me a lot of coffee in London but that time it was apple juice. Silly me :)
